In this chapter, we can see the way the priest changes the way of acting and the way looking towards life. Material things like money. He has become a ore conscious man which is giving away things only for his faith. He stops in a townin Mr. Lehr´s house, and gives some mass and offers himself to baptise children, by asking one and a half pesos, and after some brandy drinks, he lowers the price to one peso. "One peso father. We are very poor. One peso fifty. A voice from years back said firmly into his ear: they dont value for what they pay for." Pg. 167 People in this town, recieves him in a very nice way, which the priest like a lot, beacuse in other places religion and himself where rejected by everyone.
In this chapter, the priest starts thinking about others. For example when he was leaving to Las Casas he was riding a mule, and when he sees the mestizo runing after him, and tells him to please let him go with him, the priest offers to give him the mule, and he goes walking by his side. He has become a vulnerable and humble human being, which cares about others people needs.
What I think about the priest so far is that he should retire hisvow, due to the way he lived his life before. He had a life of a normal person, he had a daughter, and he constantly comited sins, and was constantly regreting, the same as a person with a normal life does. By this stage of the book he starts acting like a more reasonable human being, but he starts to question and judge himself harshly.

The Bystanders pg 45 - 58
In chapter four, we read about Mr Tench writing a letter to his wife, and the way he can´t express himself, telling her how he felt. While he was writing the letter he was interrupted by a person knocking on the door who said "con amistad." Pg 47 Padre Jose also walks through a graveyard, where there was a merchant family, who had owened the only hotel in the capital, where buring their little girl. They ask him if he could say a prayer for them, but he denies. He feels fear, beacuse all of the persecution against priest. He thinks he can´t trust anyone. "But that was the problem, he could´nt trust anyone." Pg 48 But the family insisted, they where really expecting the priest to say a prayer. "Padre Jose he said, there is no one else... He looked as if he was asking for a miracle. An enourmous temptation came to Padre Jose to take the risk and say the prayer over the grave." Pg 49
In this chater what I most realized, was the fear of all these people, who belived in God, and specially Padre Jose´s fear of speaking, and the fear of trusting anyone. He felt he could´nt trust anyone, because they could betray him, and he might get caugh.
Something else I was intrested in during this chapter, was the resentment the leuteunant felt against religion, and agianst the feeling of believing in God, due to experiences he had suffered during his childhood. A boy threw him a rock, and the boy said he was playing to throw a bomb to a "gringo", the leuteunant felt happy and prowed, and suddenlly showed his gun to the little boy. This gives us a hint of the anger the leuteunant represses and feels inside.

The River pg 30 -45
In Chapter three we can see how there is a leuteunant, looking for a priest all over a banana plantation, The Fellows plantation. Captain Fellows the head of the family, has a wife, and his daughter called Coral, she is a very self centered girl, who has very clear what she believes in, and does not judge people easily. The priest, the leutunant was looking for, was efectively hiding in the banana plantation. Coral hided him, and also feaded him. "He came last night and Coral let him sleep on the Verdana." Pg 32 We can also see how coral is very brave, and actually tries not to care in what others believe in, but she cares what she believes in. "She dressed out her fear, so that she could look at it." Pg 33 In the contrary of Coral, I can persive her mother is more coward, and is kind of a winy person, which isnt in confort with anything. "I tell you I had fever, Mrs Fellows wailed , I felt so terribly ill. Coral goes where the priest is, and she starts to talk to him, and she listens without judging his words and intentios, eventhough everyone was against religion.. The leuteunant was the same Leuteunant persecuting all the priests in chapter two. He is capable of doing anything just to reach his objective, which was to eliminate every priest posible.
I really liked this chapter, because it shows a difference of attitude between persons, I refer to Coral she thinks and believes different to her parents, and to the majority of the people, who regect religion. She has a different attitude, and she shows herself in an empatic way towards the priest. In this chapter we can also see how there was people of the village trying to confess their sins with the priest, and there was even a person who wanted his child to be baptised.
